Native to Africa, the Ostrich has inspired cultures and civilizations for over 5000 years. In Ancient Egypt, the Ostrich had great spiritual and religious significance. Ostrich feathers were associated with the deity of truth and justice, the lightness of the feather being a symbol of truth. Ostrich eggs are also often used as decorations in Islamic mosques and represent faith and patience. The Kung bushmen of Africa revered the Ostrich, and imbued it with supernatural powers when they performed ritual dances. Indigenous people of the Kalahari still use Ostrich eggs as water jugs. 

“No degree of craftsmanship is able to pay true homage to the delicacy of form and textures in nature, all we can do is to attempt to extract an essence, a pattern, a shape or a line that, perhaps, has some of the qualities of the original.  In the Ostrich I have found all of these in abundance. I have been inspired to gather some of the elements  that,  to me, is ‘Ostrich’,  into a variety of patterns, shapes, forms and textures, to  create a  functional, three-dimensional , graphic  synergy in metal”.

The whole range was originally made with genuine horns. With the scarcity of supply of certain sizes of Springbok horns however, most of the range is now manufactured with a resin cast that renders the same effect as original horns.

Only four items are still manufactured with genuine horns. All pieces have been treated with a solution in accordance with standard veterinary practice.

This collection celebrates the largest living bird in the world, the Struthio Camellus.

Native to Africa, the Ostrich has inspired cultures and civilizations for over 5000 years. In Ancient Egypt, the Ostrich had great spiritual and religious significance. Ostrich feathers were associated with the deity of truth and justice, the lightness of the feather being a symbol of truth. Ostrich eggs are also often used as decorations in Islamic mosques and represent faith and patience. The Kung bushmen of Africa revered the Ostrich, and imbued it with supernatural powers when they performed ritual dances. Indigenous people of the Kalahari still use Ostrich eggs as water jugs. 

“No degree of craftsmanship is able to pay true homage to the delicacy of form and textures in nature, all we can do is to attempt to extract an essence, a pattern, a shape or a line that, perhaps, has some of the qualities of the original.  In the Ostrich I have found all of these in abundance. I have been inspired to gather some of the elements  that,  to me, is ‘Ostrich’,  into a variety of patterns, shapes, forms and textures, to  create a  functional, three-dimensional , graphic  synergy in metal”.

The Crystal d'Afrique range perfectly blends the strength of stainless steel, the soft glow of lead-free pewter and the sparkle of a genuine Swarovski crystal. Diana draws her inspiration for this sophisticated, functional range from the naked stem of an African Aloe after the flowers have fallen. This is portrayed in the handle, by using different surface textures with unique detail hand-finishing. The tip of each piece is detailed with the crystalline brilliance of a Swarovski™ crystal, representing a perfect droplet of African dew.

The slender handle of this design represents the sleek form of the African male hunter. The handle ends in a metal point which echoes the shape of the hunter's spearhead. The design is completed by a detailed collar which features an elegant repeat pattern, inspired by the patterning found in traditional African design.

This range is the female counterpart to the Noble range and, as such, can be mixed with it if desired. The handle now takes on the sensuous shape of a woman's body and personifies the female form. Inspired by the beauty of traditional adornment, the collar detailing echoes the copper rings worn around the neck by Ndebele women.

Inspired by the African Antelope, this sophisticated and functional range of tableware features a highly polished resin horn as the handle. The ebony horn contrasts beautifully with the delicate metallic gleam of pewter detailing and stainless steel inserts.

The whole range was originally made with genuine horns. With the scarcity of supply of certain sizes of Springbok horns however, most of the range is now manufactured with a resin cast that renders the same effect as original horns.

Only four items are still manufactured with genuine horns. All pieces have been treated with a solution in accordance with standard veterinary practice.

The Impondo Zulu range ensures that the beauty of this emblematic animal lives on and spreads the spirit of Africa for decades to come.
